Concept to Commercialization - Intellectual Property & the Path to Market

Hopkins & Carley Law – IP & Trademark Group / March, 2021

Creating and protecting your IP is a critical element of your startup strategy. IP is often among a company’s most valuable assets and plays a key role in expanding its market share, securing capital, and building brand awareness.

One of the most important things you can do to ensure the success of your startup is to protect your products and services from others who may try to profit from your work and ideas.

Our speakers will provide a brief overview of different types of IP, including, trademarks, copyrights, domain names, trade secrets, and patents- and discuss common IP issues and considerations facing start-ups. Particular focus will be given to creating exclusivity with respect to a company name and brand in the US and worldwide, obtaining initial assignments of IP from employees and contractors, securing NDAs and addressing preformation IP ownership issues.
