How can I convince someone to join my startup?

I think hiring the best people ultimately comes down to two things. I think the first one is something that you have to have any way to do a startup, which is a passion for what you do. You need to be super passionate about what you’re building, the problem that you’re solving etc. Which if you are intrinsically passionate about that, that’s contagious. That’s how you get people on board, particularly in the early phases when you typically don’t have any money to pay people etc.

I think the second one is people talk a lot about mission right, which is one of those fancy words that McKinsey will tell you that you need to have for a startup. I don’t know, I don’t think you need to have a mission articulated but I think what mission actually is, is truly why you care about solving that problem. You’re passionate about the problem you’re solving, but why are you passionate about that. I think you need to understand that part and communicate that part. I think those are probably the two key things in initially recruiting that first team.
