What are the entrepreneurial traits you look for in founders?

Anarghya Vardhana, Senior Associate at Maveron explains what type of entrepreneurial traits do they look for in successful founders that they choose to invest in.

At Maveron, we’re really founder and team driven. We spend a lot of time trying to get to know the founders. There are multiple things that we’re looking for. Obviously, the founding team or the team itself should have a good sense of their customer. We’re a consumer only VC firm and we want to make sure that we’re investing in people that understand how to connect with the customers. What are they building? Why are they building it, and who is going to use it or why are they going to use it? We look a lot at the team’s consumer DNA, is what we call it. Do they have the ability to build a consumer passion and are they the right team to do it?

Also, building a company is really hard and we want to make sure that the founder we’re investing in has that perseverance, the ability to push despite the odds. Building a company looks like a rollercoaster. There is going to be great times and there is going to be some pretty bad times. Ensuring that you’re investing in entrepreneurs who are able to push through that and persevere because they are so passionate about what they are building is quite critical.
